Add a track to a release

This EditType adds a track notes.gif to a release, or a NonAlbumTrack to an artist.

How to do it

  • The Add non-album tracks link below the artist's name on a artist page or release page takes you to a page where you can add one or more NonAlbumTracks (click on "(Want to add more tracks than this?)" to increase the number of tracks you can add - blank entries are ignored).
  • The Add track link below the release's name on a release page (or other pages where release details are displayed) takes you to a page where you can add a track to a release (AddTrackEdit).
  • The Edit all link below the release's name on a release page (or other pages where release details are displayed) takes you to a page where, by checking the "Add a track..." box and clicking on the "Continue" button, track numbers and spaces for new track titles appear - again, tracks with blank titles are ignored.

Guidelines

Editing

  • Re-Import release instead:
  • For releases added by a FreeDBImport, the original tracks will have track times and the added tracks will not (these might be called FrankenAlbums). Rather than adding more tracks to a release to match the version you have, consider the possibility that there are different versions of the release with different (bonus?) tracks. If you can find an entry in FreeDB with the tracks you want, it is better to do a FreeDBImport of that release, since then all tracks will have track times.

Voting

  • Adding a NonAlbumTrack requires an EditNote for a reason; these tracks are usually present on another release that hasn't been added or imported, or actually belong to a different artist. Don't hesitate to vote "no" if the EditNote fails to show that this track is really not on any released (or soon-to-be-released) release.
  • Releases that are not FreeDBImports (those with all track times of  ?:?? ) are more likely to be incomplete, so verification for adding tracks to these is less critical than for FreeDBImport releases (with actual track times).
  • When voting on track adds, look for links to a discography entry with the proposed track.

Notes

You cannot add tracks to a release with a valid DiscID.

Newly-added tracks appear in the database immediately, but if the edit fails to pass, they will be removed. This can lead to BrokenDiscIDs, where a DiscID is added to a release with the right number of tracks, but one of those tracks is later removed, so that the DiscID no longer matches the release. (BrokenDiscIDs are listed in this SuggestionReport.)

Prerequisites

None known. It is unknown whether an AddTrackEdit will fail due to a FailedPrerequisite if the added track is deleted by RemoveTrackEdit.

Dependencies

None known. It is unknown whether an AddTrackEdit will fail due to a FailedDependency if the release containing the track is deleted by a RemoveReleaseEdit or RemoveReleasesEdit.
