ID3v2Tags

Proposal of Extended TXXX Frames for ID3v2

Status: /!\ This page is not about ID3v2 Tags in general but about one proposed set. It is generally messy and not coherent with the other information of MusicBrainzTags on this wiki.

I figure this is as good a place as any to list at least my reccomended TXXX frames. The description comes first.

ASIN - Holds the Amazon.com ASIN for the album that the song is ripped from (e.g. ["B000089RVX"] for Fallen by Evanescence)

Catalog Number - Holds the catalog number for the album that the song is ripped from (e.g. 60150-13063-2 for Fallen by Evanescence)

CDDB Discid - Contains the CDDB discid for the song's album (if the tag is lacking an MCDI frame).

EAN/UPC - Contains the EAN or UPC (BarCodes) for the song's album. (e.g. 601501306327 for Fallen by Evanescence)

GRid - Contains the GRid for the song's album. The GRid (I believe) is an upcoming more detailed way to group the songs on an album as planned by the music industry. Haven't seen these in context yet.

ISAN - Contains the ISAN for the song's album (if applicable).

ISBN - Contains the ISBN for the song's album (if applicable).

LC - Contains the label code for the song's album. (e.g. 0199 for any one of the Evanescence singles from Britain) These are rather rare in the US (if they even came here at all) so I doubt this would be common.

MusicBrainz CDIndex - Contains the MusicBrainz CDIndex for the song's album (if the tag is lacking an MCDI frame).

And of course the obligatory (and actually standardized):

MusicBrainz Album Id - Contains the MusicBrainz ReleaseID for the song's album. (MusicBrainz)

MusicBrainz Album Artist Id - Contains the MusicBrainz ArtistID for the song's artist if it is from a "Various Artists" album. (MusicBrainz)

MusicBrainz Artist Id - Contains the MusicBrainz ArtistID for the song's artist. (MusicBrainz)

MusicBrainz TRM Id - Contains the MusicBrainz TRM ID for the song. (MusicBrainz)

I've also seen proposals for a link to "Tipster" ([WWW] http://tipster.weblogs.com/) and "Creative Commons" using the WXXX frame.

Came up with two more that would probably be helpful:

Label - Yes, ID3v2.3 (which seems to be the standard ID3v2 implementation) has the TPUB frame. However, I've always interpreted that as meaning the person who owns the Phonographic copyright (P) of the recording. This is often the same company that owns copyright, and rarely is the actual LABEL (for example, with Eve 6, the Label is RCA, but the publisher (P) is BMG Entertainment.). Thus I think this would be a rather helpful frame, supposing one does go with the phonographic copyright for the Publisher.

Naturally of course there is a similar description for use with the WXXX tag, that would link to the LABEL'S website as opposed to the publisher's.

See MusicBrainzTags for a description of what is currently stored in tags by tagger applications.
