[edit] Link Phrases
- forward: release A is part of a series, the next release in the series is release B
- reverse: release B is part of a series, the previous release in the series is release A
Description: Indicates that a disc or release is part of a Series of releases.
[edit] Description
This AdvancedRelationshipType indicates that two releases are part of a series. For the purposes of this relationship, a series is as defined in Series with some qualifications noted in the rules below.
NOTE: Please link the releases of a series to each other in sequence. Do NOT link all of them to the first disc.
[edit] Additional rules
- If a member of a series has multiple Releases (discs), this relationship should only be added to the first Release in the set. The Releases making up that series member can of course be linked with the PartOfSetRelationshipType.
- Where releases in a series are available in different ReleaseFormats that are separate releases in MusicBrainz (e.g. a series available in multi-disc vinyl as well as single-disc CD releases), releases should be linked to other releases of the same ReleaseFormat where possible.
[edit] When not to use
- This relationship should not be used as a substitute for the regular chronology/discography of releases for an artist or label. An artist's series of regular studio albums are not a series for the purposes of MusicBrainz.
- In the case that a series is a "sub-series" of another, releases should only be linked between each other in their most specific sub-series. For example, the Promo Only meta-series has had subdivisions for Modern Rock, Urban, Country etc. Releases in Country should only be linked to each other. This is to avoid the problems noted in DontMakeRelationshipClusters.
- If not all members of a series are registered in MusicBrainz, then only link the adjacent releases in the series. Do not add links that would skip an entry. I.e if "Volume 4" of a series is not in the database, do not add a link from Volume 3 to Volume 5.
