'''Picard''' is the next generation MusicBrainz tagging application. This new tagging concept is album oriented, as opposed to track/file oriented like the [[Classic Tagger|ClassicTagger]] was. Picard is written in Python, which is a cross-platform language, and makes use of cross-platform libraries - this allows the same code to run both on Windows, Linux and Mac OS X. |

MusicBrainz Picard is named after Captain Jean-Luc Picard from the TV series Star Trek: The Next Generation and is the official MusicBrainz tagging application.
Picard is a cross-platform application written in Python that runs on Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X, and it is the successor of the now-deprecated MusicBrainz Classic Tagger. While the Classic Tagger used an approach that tagged individual songs/files at a time, Picard uses an album oriented approach, this allows it to utilize the MusicBrainz data as effectively as possible.
