History:Change Track Artist Edit
From MusicBrainz Wiki
Jump to navigationJump to search
This edit changes the Artist of an individual Track , without affecting the artist of the entire Release .
How to do it
- The Change Artist link in the "Release Information" section on an Track page takes you to a page where you can search for a new artist to change the artist of the track to, as well as (optionally) edit the track's title (EditTrackNameEdit).
- The Edit All link on a Release page (or other pages where release details are displayed) takes you to a page where you can change artists of any or all of the tracks, as well as edit the release's title (EditReleaseNameEdit) and/or attributes (EditReleaseAttributesEdit), as well as the title (EditTrackNameEdit), number (EditTrackNumberEdit), time (EditTrackTimeEdit) of any or all tracks on the release.
- For a currently single artist release, click "Show all track Artists" first. Then for either single or VariousArtists releases, you can click the pencil icon File:edit-off.gif beside any artist and type a new artist value. Then either use the inline "Lookup" function to find the new TrackArtist, or click "Continue" to move to the next step where you will asked to manually search for and select the new track artist.
Guidelines
Editing
Common reasons for using this edit include:
- because the track is a remix by the release artist, but originally by a different artist, i.e RemixStyle
- because the release artist is only featured on a track, which was originally by a different artist, i.e. FeaturingArtistStyle
- to fix a VariousArtists release which has tracks attributed incorrectly, or artists currently contained within TrackTitle
s
Voting
- Ideally, a voter should verify that the target artist is correct from a source provided by the editor and an EditNote; and if applicable that the artist and the new TrackName (if changed in separate EditTrackNameEdit edit) conform to any applicable style guidelines, such as RemixStyle or FeaturingArtistStyle.
