How to Propose New Style Guidelines
- Status: This page is out of date, but still helpful. Please read the page on the StyleCouncil for current (ever changing) practices.
If you think there is a need for a new StyleGuideline, please proceed as follows:
- If you are unsure, whether this has been discussed already, you could ask on the UsersMailingList. Also please search the MusicBrainzWiki for related places where the issue might have been discussed already.
- Raise the issue on the StyleMailingList.
- If people start to pick your proposal up, or if you need to describe it in detail, please create a wiki page for it.
- Note that WikiName
s of StyleGuidelines should have the form
XYStyle
and EditingGuidelines have the formDoThis
. Check GoodWikiName for more information. - The page should be of CategoryGuideline and CategoryProposedStyle. [1]
- List your page on ProposedStyleGuideline and describe it in a few words.
- Important: Intertwingle your page. Link to it from related places in the wiki. If you do not do that, your page is likely to drop out of focus quickly.
- Try to answer the questions on ChecklistForStyleChanges
- Note that WikiName
- If consensus is reached, your page will eventually be made official by a member of the StyleCouncil. Don't do this yourself.
