This edit adds a LabelAlias to an existing Label
How to do it
- The Add New Alias link below the list of existing aliases on a label aliases page takes you to a page where you can add a new LabelAlias (AddLabelAliasEdit).
Guidelines
Editing
- Aliases are useful to enhance search results; there are a number of legit reasons to create a new alias: misspellings, variants, numbers... Be sure to read LabelAlias for a complete list.
- Thanks to the Lucene search engine that MusicBrainz uses, there is no longer a need for aliases containing unaccented characters
- Use LabelAlias
es sparingly. Adding too many (bogus) aliases will actually degrade the search quality and encourage misattribution.
Voting
- The LabelAlias page covers most legitimate uses.
Notes
At that time, LabelAliases have to be unique (780), like ArtistAlias
es.
Prerequisites
- An AddLabelAliasEdit will fail due to a FailedPrerequisite if that alias already exists (be it attached to the same label or to another one).
- An AddLabelAliasEdit will fail due to a FailedPrerequisite if the label is deleted by a RemoveLabelEdit.
Dependencies

Internal Errors

MOD_ADD_LABELALIAS ()
Discussion
- Is MOD_ADD_LABELALIAS actually correct and what is the edit ID?
- Isn't the second FailedPrerequisite a FailedDependency?
- Is 1162 applicable here?
