This edit creates a new Label.

How to do it

  • To create a new Label, you can click on the Add Label link in the Edit section of the top menu.
  • Alternatively, you can also create a new label when you searched for a label that is not already present in the database: in such a case, you'll be presented with a new label link
  • Finally, if you try to enter a ReleaseEvent using a label not already in the database, you'll also be given the choice to create a new Label

Guidelines

Editing

  • Identifying and dealing with labels is a complicated topic. Be sure to go through the Labels pages of the documentation before editing. Specifically, you may want to read LabelName, LabelSortName, LabelCode, LabelCountry, LabelType, LabelBeginDate and LabelEndDate for more insight about the various labels fields and their meaning
  • Whenever you create a new label, be sure to leave an EditNote giving at least a small explanation about the label situation and history, or better a link to a web-page containing further details about it
  • Please note that labels with identical name or code will require an additional step before their creation, as you'll be prompted to enter a LabelComment disambiguation text, and tick the confirmation check-box. The purpose of this feature is to prevent duplicate label creation.
  • If you plan to create a label by going first through a search, be sure to use the direct search as well before you do so - the regular search uses indexes that are refreshed once a day, and they may not contain the latest labels entries (possibly, yours has been created meanwhile).
  • Once your label is created, you may additionally want to write a LabelAnnotation with further details about it, and possibly add LabelAliases to enhance the search results

Voting

  • Before anything else, be sure to verify that the label doesn't already exist (by using both the indexed search and direct search). If it does already exist, and you think it is indeed a duplicate, you should warn the editor about it and vote no. Of course, there are legitimate cases of IdenticallyNamedLabels.
  • As a second step, you certainly want to verify why this label is created. It's common to see distributors or manufacturers wrongly credited on releases.
  • Then consider researching documentation about the new label. See LabelResource for useful links. Be sure to add an EditNote with the result of your researches, so that you save work for other voters and enhance the available information about the Label. You may consider correcting the label entry, or even adding AdvancedRelationships to it.

Notes

Prerequisites

An EditXXX will fail due to a FailedPrerequisite if another EditXXX changes the XXX.

Dependencies

An EditXXX will fail due to a FailedDependency if the OOO is deleted by RemoveOOO.

Internal Errors

  • Advanced Search is helpful to turn up some examples of InternalError edits. These are rare, though, and if none exist, you should omit this section.
