The Auto-Editor Elections happen on the main server and are available for anyone to review, however, you must be an existing Auto-Editor to vote on an election.

The election details goes back as far as 2004 which is when the current election system was implemented. When viewing election details, only a vote tally and the election result will be visible, individual users' votes are hidden.

Rules/Regulations/Formalities

  1. Any Auto-Editor can nominate any user to become an Auto-Editor.
  2. A nominated user must be seconded by two other Auto-Editors.
  3. Once seconded twice, other Auto-Editors have one week to vote on the election; a simple majority is required to be promoted.

Any Auto-Editor who nominates or seconds a candidate cannot vote in the election itself.

Procedure

  1. To start a new election, go the the profile page of the user you want to nominate and click the "Nominate for Auto-Editor" link.
  2. While it is not required, it is customary to send an email to the Auto-Editors mailing list to personally announce your nomination and give others a background of the candidate and why you feel they should be elected.
  3. To second a candidate, go to the election page, click through to the details page for the candidate you'd like to support, then click the "Second" button.
  4. To vote in an election, go to the election detail page for the candidate and click one of the voting buttons.

When a user is nominated (i.e., a new candidate is proposed), if/when two seconders are found and the election starts, and when voting closes, the system will send an email to the Auto-Editors mailing list. The email will describe the election's status and also provide relevant web links. This mailing list should also be used for discussion of the nomination.
