The [[MusicBrainz]] mailing lists (sometimes called groups) are one of the most important [[MusicBrainz Forum|communication forums]] of the project.
The MusicBrainz mailing lists are dead. Information about the lists and their archives below:
}}

==Reading and Writing to the Lists==

==Main Mailing Lists==
You can [http://www.nabble.com/MusicBrainz-f2885.html read and search] most of the lists in a combined archive (hosted by [http://www.nabble.com Nabble]).

The main mailing lists are the most active of the mailing lists and are where most discussion takes place.
You can also [http://musicbrainz.org/search.html search] the mailman archives by selecting "Search the MusicBrainz mailing lists" on the Site Search. This is the same as adding ''site:lists.musicbrainz.org'' to a query for a [http://www.google.com/ Google] search.

===Users' Mailing List===
You can send any (MusicBrainz related) mail to the [[Users Mailing List|UsersMailingList]]. You can even do this [http://www.nabble.com/Musicbrainz---Users-f514.html via Nabble]. For all other lists, ''please make sure that your post is on topic'' -- see the descriptions belo. You will need to subscibe to these lists in order to post. Finally, all users of the mailing lists are expected to follow the [[Code Of Conduct|CodeOfConduct]].

The users' mailing list is for general discussion about MusicBrainz ''for all users'', including questions about the exact interpretation of the [[Style Guideline|style guidelines]]. If you're unsure which list to post to, use this one. An alternative to the users' mailing list is the [[MusicBrainz Forum|forums]].
==Multi-Purpose Mailing Lists==
{{MailingListArchives|musicbrainz-users|gmane.comp.audio.musicbrainz.user|MusicBrainz-Users-f1079154i35.html}}

===Style Mailing List===
There are three multi-purpose mailing lists. You can post about almost any MusicBrainz related topic. The lists differ in the degree of involvement of their subscribers:
* [[Users Mailing List|UsersMailingList]]:
<ul><li style="list-style-type:none">General discussions about MusicBrainz ''for all users''. These include questions about the exact interpretation of the [[Style Guideline|StyleGuideline]]<code><nowiki></nowiki></code>s. When the term "MailingList" is used, this usually means the UsersMailingList is meant. <br/>[http://lists.musicbrainz.org/mailman/listinfo/musicbrainz-users Subscribe] [http://lists.musicbrainz.org/pipermail/musicbrainz-users/ View archives]
</ul>
* [[Experts Mailing List|ExpertsMailingList]]:
<ul><li style="list-style-type:none">Discussions about the development of MusicBrainz for experienced users, who have some experience with the structure, culture, and history of MusicBrainz. <br/>[http://lists.musicbrainz.org/mailman/listinfo/musicbrainz-experts Subscribe] [http://lists.musicbrainz.org/pipermail/musicbrainz-experts/ View archives]
</ul>
* [[Advisors Mailing List|AdvisorsMailingList]]:
<ul><li style="list-style-type:none">Restricted list for the MusicBrainz [[Community Advisory Board|CommunityAdvisoryBoard]]. <br/>[http://lists.musicbrainz.org/mailman/listinfo/musicbrainz-advisors Subscribe] [http://lists.musicbrainz.org/pipermail/musicbrainz-advisors/ View archives]
</ul>

The style mailing list is used for discussion about general style issues and the style guidelines, including proposals for new guidelines and changes to existing ones. This list '''isn't''' intended for questions about how to apply the style guidelines to specific cases, the users mailing list or the forums are better places to ask such questions.
==Specialized Mailing Lists==

===Developers' Mailing List===

<ul><li style="list-style-type:none">Communication forum of the [[Style Council|StyleCouncil]], used to discuss improvements to the [[Style Guideline|StyleGuideline]]<code><nowiki></nowiki></code>s. <br/>Please do not ask how to understand or use guidelines! ==Alternate Access via Nabble==

If you prefer forum-like interfaces, you may prefer to access the mailing lists via [http://musicbrainz.1054305.n4.nabble.com/ Nabble]. As well as reading the mailing lists, Nabble also allows you to post new threads, reply to existing threads and search the current posts, and any posts you make are automatically sent to the corresponding mailing list.

==Alternate Access via Gmane==

There is also a read-only interface at Gmane for most of the lists. Gmane provides several ways to access the lists including a threaded web interface, an RSS feed for feed readers or an NNTP interface for newsreaders.
