Style for Disc Numbers

When a CD is part of a multiple CD volume, indicate the disc number by appending " (disc 1)"

Example

"The Wall (disc 2)"

There is also some other type of information that can be included in this pair of parentheses. See e.g. the DiscNumberWithNameStyle. See also the SingleDiscNumberStyle.

The only thing that should not be changed to "disc" are Volume numbers. There is a special VolumeNumberStyle.

Discussion

It is possible that a series of discs is called (disc A), (disc B) specifically, in that case, it's ok to keep that "numbering", as the albums will be ordered the same way as they were named 1,2 (see modid #2023851) --g0llum

There are other exceptions to the style, e.g. 4hero "Two Pages (page 1)" and the other disc of this double album "Two Pages (page 2)" for that case, the same exception can be applied. (see http://www.musicbrainz.org/showalbum.html?albumid=109833 for reference) --g0llum

I'm not convinced by the two exceptions above. Disc numbers are obviously not part of the title and hopefully at some point in the future an actual DiscNumber field will be added to the database. It seems likely that at that point a script will convert the current standard format (disc x) and (disc y: discname) but will choke on other random variations. I would suggest the two examples above should stick to that format e.g. simply (disc 1) or (disc 1: Page 1). Note that two part cassette, minidisc etc. sets are currently called (disc x). -- bawjaws

  • I agree with bawjaws on this, especially as there is an ID3v2 frame for disc number (which would not accept a letter) and some taggers might map this data to that frame. @alex
