* Digipak (I guess we don't want to differentiate between "proper" Digipaks and copies thereof (sometimes called Digipack); [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Optical_disc_packaging#Digipak see explanation on Wikipedia] --[[User:Shepard|Shepard]] 18:18, 22 May 2011 (UTC))

Options

Any format:

  • Clear vinyl sleeve (picture disc etc.)
  • Paper/Cardboard Sleeve -- (note: in the current ngs database, this is listed as "Paper Sleeve". If we're actually going to have this much detail, some users are going to list "Other" for cardboard or plastic sleeves. Maybe we should just go with "Sleeve".) Torc 03:03, 18 May 2011 (UTC)
  • Funny/Fancy/Novelty pack, perhaps as "Custom Case" (I've got a penguin shaped CD box)
  • Picture frame (very rare but as a collector you come across strangest types of packaging)
  • Wooden box (some Connoisseur Collection CD's came in a wooden box)
  • Lunchbox
  • miniature milk crate (I've been seeing a bunch of these milk crate CDs at sites I've worked at; they have the CD and a t-shirt. BrianSchweitzer 18:29, 22 March 2010 (UTC))
  • None (no packaging: essentially standard for digital media releases.) - .zip files? ;-) --Shepard 17:45, 22 May 2011 (UTC)
  • Gatefold (not a packaging type per se, but a property of certain packaging types that would be useful to catalog).
  • Slipcase (for box sets)
  • A (non-wooden) box

CD / DVDs:

  • Jewel Case
    • Slim Jewel Case
    • Apparently there's a CD Single case which is, in slimness, between the regular Jewel Case and the slim one: picture, description in German --Shepard 18:18, 22 May 2011 (UTC)
  • Digipak
    • Many different variations of how they fold, how many plastic trays they have, how thick they are, where the booklet goes etc. - The most complicated on I've seen is Demons & Wizards - Touched by the Crimson King which folds open in every direction. --Shepard 18:37, 22 May 2011 (UTC)
    • I guess we don't want to differentiate between "proper" Digipaks and copies thereof (sometimes called Digipack); see explanation on Wikipedia --Shepard 18:18, 22 May 2011 (UTC)
  • Japanese 8cm CD single long style package ex.1 ex.2
  • Keep Case
  • Ecopack
  • Super Jewel Box - with sub-types for the sizes Standard, Plus, King combined with the variations One/Two, Fliptray, Slim and Multi-box? --Shepard 18:18, 22 May 2011 (UTC)
  • CD / DVD as part of a book, common with training CD/DVD's (in fact this isn't a packaging)
  • Double Case (This needs more detail. What kind of double/triple/quad case? Torc 03:20, 18 May 2011 (UTC) )
  • Triple Case
  • Quad Case
  • Tin box containing Jewel Case -- jacobbrett 01:35, 24 March 2010 (UTC)
