In the example above, an annotation noting the original tracks were performed by Dolly Parton and Röyksopp is appropriate, but as this information was not actually part of the original [[Artist Name|ArtistName]] or [[Track Title|TrackTitle]], we should not add it. The track titles are being moderated at the moment, from something that was wrong to something else, that's not correct either. If feel there's a need for a separate [[Mash-up|MashUp]] style guide, which makes a distinction between the different kinds of mash tracks found on the linked album. As of March 2007, there appears to be growing sentiment that VersusStyle is too vague, possibly even irrelevant since [[Artist Intent|ArtistIntent]] can almost always be argued to override it. I continue to use [[Mash Up Style|MashUpStyle]] as defined as the "third case" above, and it seems to have been accepted for the 2 Many DJ's albums. The content of this page either is bit-rotted, or has lost its reason to exist due to some new features having been implemented in MusicBrainz, or maybe just described something that never made it in (or made it in a different way), or possibly is meant to store information and memories about our Glorious Past. We still keep this page to honor the brave editors who, during the prehistoric times (prehistoric for you, newcomer!), struggled hard to build a better present and dreamed of an even better future. We also keep it for archival purposes because possibly it still contains crazy thoughts and ideas that may be reused someday. If you're not into looking at either the past or the future, you should just disregard entirely this page content and look for an up to date documentation page elsewhere. |
This is the style for tracks with artists credited as Artist A vs. Artist B.
The first thing to note is that Versus Means Different Things; and you must determine what kind of "versus" it is.
- In the first case, where it is simply two artists collaborating, credit as a collaboration using Collaboration Relationship Type form of Advanced Relationships (i.e. in accordance with Featuring Artist Style).
- In the second case, where it means one artist is remixing another, use the original artist as the artist name, and put the remixer into the track title as you would with other remixes, following the Remix Style.
- In the third case, where the track is a mash-up, use the mash-up artist as the artist name, and put the two "versus" artist titles into the track name like so: "Track Title (Artist A vs. Artist B)".
