How to Propose New Style Guidelines

If you think there is a need for a new StyleGuideline, please proceed as follows:

  1. If you are unsure, whether this has been discussed already, you could ask on the UsersMailingList. Also please search the MusicBrainzWiki for related places where the issue might have been discussed already.
  2. Raise the issue on the StyleMailingList.
  3. If people start to pick your proposal up, or if you need to describe it in detail, please create a wiki page for it.
    • Note that WikiNames of StyleGuidelines should have the form XYStyle and EditingGuidelines have the form DoThis. Check GoodWikiName for more information.
    • The page should be of CategoryGuideline and CategoryProposedStyle. [1]
    • List your page on ProposedStyleGuideline and describe it in a few words.
    • Important: Intertwingle your page. Link to it from related places in the wiki. If you do not do that, your page is likely to drop out of focus quickly.
  1. If consensus is reached, your page will eventually be made official by a member of the StyleCouncil. Don't do this yourself.

That's about it.

  1. There is currently no category for proposed EditingGuidelines, go ahead and create it, if you need it
