Instrument List

The instrument list is the list of instruments that may be used with relationship types which use the instrument relationship attribute. As the list is very large, it is not included here. You can see the full list on the server.

You could refer to Musical Terms Translations or Credit Translations if you're searching translation of common musical terms.

New instruments

If you can't find an instrument, new instruments are suggested and discussed in our issue tracker (see more specific details below).

Please also add an annotation to the recordings or releases stating which relationships need fixing and what the instrument should really be, so that they can be fixed later once the instrument has been added (see Sub Optimal Credits for more information).

How to request an instrument

First, make sure that it doesn't already exist with a different name. If it does, but the search isn't finding it, you can use the same request system to ask for a new alias for the existing instrument, rather than a new instrument.

Go to the issue tracker, choose "Create" and select "INST".

In the Issue types section (from most to least likely):

• For a new instrument, select "New Feature"
• For something that needs improving, like adding an alias or updating a description, select "Improvement"
• For something that's outright wrong with existing instruments, select "Bug"
• For more extensive research that'll span several instruments, select "Task"

In the General section:

• Shortly explain what you're asking for on the Summary section.
• Pick the type of instrument you're asking for (or say you want a modification) on the Components section.
• Include as much useful information about the instrument as possible in the Description section: link to a description in Wikipedia, pictures, other sites, etc (a good example). Remember that the more information you provide, the easier it is for the people in charge of adding instruments to get it added.

Then click Create and you should be done!
