BrainStew

  • Stew is a mashup of solid ingredents served in gravy. [1]
  • joins together all upcoming brainz, not just music (a person doing one art is often doing another, like music+books or music+movies)
  • MusicBrainz contains BrainStew and BrainStew contains MusicBrainz
  • is a chained compound word of MusicBrainz (is a directly following element in the chain of compound words)

BrightSide (or similar)

Calabash/The Great Calabash

Courge encore verte.jpg
  • Subtitle: The MusicBrainz Exhibition
  • References: gourds (Monty Python) and flasks and greatness - can also be used as an instrument
  • Pros:
    • No strong/direct references to music, MusicBrainz, zombies, Star Trek, ...
    • Nice, woody word (and has a nice ring to it, IMHO --Freso (talk) 19:13, 16 November 2012 (UTC))
  • Cons:
    • No strong/direct references to music, MusicBrainz, zombies, Star Trek, ...

CatSkanz

  • We scan brainz.
  • Pros
    • It has a "z" in it!
    • Cat in Ray Bans mascot?
  • Cons
    • Has that "why did you name your website CatSkanz?" problem.
    • No music, python, or flask references.

CoconutJam

Philippine Brand Coconut Jam.jpg
  • References: Monty Python, tropics, sweet stuff, music
  • Pros:
    • Is a nice, obscure word that doesn't really have any strongs ties to anything, and is thus a fairly blank plate.
    • I personally (says Freso) like the imagery, but I'm also a sucker for both coconuts and sugary things - as well as jamming. :D
      • I also like the rhythm of the word. --Freso (talk) 15:49, 22 November 2012 (UTC)
  • Cons:
    • See pros. :)

HipFlask

  • References: flasks, hipsters
  • Pro:
    • I like how it sounds -- Caller_number_six (talk)
      • Indeed; this is the first name other than MusicBottle that actually sounds like a passable name to me, but without the shared-initials problem Ianmcorvidae (talk) 23:44, 1 November 2012 (UTC)
  • Cons:
    • Nothing to do with music, zombies or databases
      • The project only really has anything to do with the first one of those three anyway :) Ianmcorvidae (talk) 23:44, 1 November 2012 (UTC)
    • Maybe such an explicit reference to flask is a bad thing
      • Even if the project switches from Flask the web framework to something else, the name alone isn't too bad; I don't think it's a problem. Ianmcorvidae (talk) 23:44, 1 November 2012 (UTC)

MusicBottle

  • What we're using (for) now.
  • Good:
    • Music for MusicBrainz
    • Bottle for Flask
    • Bot-tle (a bit far-fetched, and it's not really that automated either)
    • Can produce decent catch phrases and visuals (bottling music, unplugged, messages in bottles, bottled ships, ...)
  • Not so good:
    • "MB" can be both MusicBrainz and MusicBottle

MusicLenz

Because it's for viewing data in MB in a prettier way :)

MusicMeat

  • Not very good, but might help seed an idea. --ijabz

MusicZombie

  • References "music" and is built up like FooBrainz.
  • Zombies eatz brainz, we feed on MusicBrainz data.
  • Zombie has a "z" like in *Brainz.
  • MZ is easily distinct from MB. :)
  • Can easily use the purple/orange theme and is easy to make a visual identity/mascot with/for.
    • Am I alone in wanting to de-emphasize the purple/orange theme? -- Caller_number_six (talk)
      • We do not absolute have to use purple/orange if we don't want to. :) --Freso (talk) 15:13, 1 November 2012 (UTC)

SuperBrainz

  • Not very good, but might help seed an idea. --ijabz

My two cents, I see no point linking the name to the underlying technology, its irrelevant for a website aimed at music lovers not coders, I think it should at least have some reference to Music or MusicBrainz even if quite tenuous, and I would drop the purple/orange theme, although I like both colours I don't think they look very good together, in fact look very outdated to me. --ijabz

  • I moved your suggestions up to this list. Also, I agree that the underlying technology doesn't have to be exposed through the name. However, "flasks" do make for some nice imagery which in turn can be used for slogans, mottos, logos, etc. Note that only two of the four current suggestions actually use "flask" or a synonym. --Freso (talk) 11:58, 7 November 2012 (UTC)
