Slang used by the users in MusicBrainz

Note: this vocabulary is mostly used in the IRC channel as this is the place where brainerz talk most laxly. Additionally to the terms described here it is common to make a lot of references to HHTTG and AYBABTU. And: to use the words "bush", "SCO", "windoze", "microsoft" and "gracenote" often to make MBChatLogger automatically reply to that.




A-bomb

Definition: Lots of Abstain-votes on an edit. Analogue: Y-bomb for Yes-votes and N-bomb for No-votes.

Alternate Definition: a bomb full of the biological agent "adenine" which can cause a huge energy burst in all cells

Example: none known yet as it's a completely impractical bomb

APR

Definition: Acronym for ArtistPageRedesign, working title for the redesign of the artist/discography pages.

Origin in MB: Probably Keschte as he called it ArtistPageRedesign. ;)

asshat

Definition: Don't feel offended if someone calls you asshat. It just means they like you. :)

bogus

Definition: Used to describe incorrect edits, albums, ...

Example: "This album is completly bogus!"

Origin in MB: mo

chocolate

Definition: Most important thingy for the brainerz. Like a currency. Everyone wants it! Even the MB-group leader election on last.fm might be decided on the chocolate issue.

Origin in MB: Nikki

ding!

Definition: Meaning "Exactly!", "You got it!", "Good point!".

Origin: Ruaok

dodgy

Definition: See above. Also an alternative for bogus.

Origin in MB: Nikki

moose

Definition: Highly adorable creatures. Also used as a universal verb. The moose could be seen as the unofficial MusicBrainz mascot (see pictures below).

Examples:

N-bomb

Definition: High amount of No-votes on an edit. Analogue: Y-bomb for Yes-votes and A-bomb for Abstain-votes.

Alternate Definition: Highly useless bomb made with high pressure nitrogen.

Example: "Drop the N-bomb please! [link to edit]" (in Chat)

NAT (plural: NATs)

Definition: Acronym for "non-album track(s)"

Origin: mo

natta

Definition: Norwegian for "night".

Origin in MB: mo

NGS

Definition: Acronym for NextGenerationSchema, the proposed new database schema.

Origin in MB: <unknown>

pweed

Definition: A phonetic way of saying PUID. mo hates it though, because he's a wonky Norwegian.

Origin: Muz

thingy

Definition: You know... thingy!

Origin in MB: Nikki

time-of-day

Definition: Form of greeting that came up because MB being an international project and the people contributing live in different time-zones so a daytime used as greetings does not apply for everyone.

Origin in MB: Nikki

trongersoll'ing

Definition: Abstaining massively on edits / voting abstain when you could have decided easily for yes or no.

Origin: Keschte

tunepimp

Definition: Name of the library used for tagging audio files ("Pimp my tunes" -> "Pimp my ride").

Origin: Ruaok

Waga waga klepto!

Definition: Noone knows...

Example: * Quits: ruaok ("Waga waga klepto!")

Wiki Zen

Definition: WikiZens are the people regulary using this Wiki. When you are one with the WikiWikiWeb... you have achieved WikiZen.

Origin: WikiZen and WikiZens are terms coined on TheOriginalWiki. Probably imported by DonRedman, who gained his WikiZen by browsing this and other wikis (UseMod, MeatBall, etc.) .

Definition: To wikidocsel a WikiPage means to make it a WikiDocsPage by adding it to the WikiDocsTransclusionTable (aka WikiWebService).

Y-bomb

Definition: Lots of Yes-votes on an edit. Analogue: N-bomb for No-votes and A-bomb for Abstain-votes.

Alternate Definition: a bomb full of silvery, ductile metal which is moderately reactive and is capable of O(n) destruction where n is the amount of Y

Example: "y-bomb [link to edit] pls" (in Chat)
