General Options

MusicBrainz Server

These fields tells Picard where to find the MusicBrainz server it uses for metadata lookups. Supply two pieces of information:

• Server address: the domain name for the server. Default value: musicbrainz.org (for the main MusicBrainz server).
• Port: the port number for the server. An integer. One server name can communicate through thousands of different port numbers. Default value: 80 (for the main MusicBrainz server).

Account Information

These fields tell Picard how to login to the MusicBrainz server when it submits PUIDs and DiscIDs from your discs. Supply two pieces of information:

• Username: Supply the same thing you enter as user name when you log in to the MusicBrainz web site.
• Password: Supply the same thing you enter as password when you log in to the MusicBrainz web site. It is displayed with "*" characters in place of the actual characters, for security reasons.

Automatically Analyze All New Files

This option tells Picard whether to "scan" the music files you open, in order to look up Portable Unique IDentifiers PUIDs for the files. It looks up PUIDs from the MusicDNS service, not from MusicBrainz. If it find them, it can store them in your music files, where it is a helpful but optional identifier should you update your metadata. It can also store them at MusicBrainz, where they are an even more helpful identifier for future people tagging their own copy of that same track. It takes Picard a minute or two to scan each music file.

Check this box if you want Picard to scan each music file and look for a PUID. This takes time, but may be helpful for you and MusicBrainz. Leave it unchecked if you don't want Picard to do this scan automatically.

In any case, you can direct Picard to can a particular music file using the Scan button in the main UI.
