#REDIRECT [[Style/Titles#Extra_title_information]]
=Style for Extra Title Information=

Additional information on a [[Release]] or [[Track]] that is '''not''' part of its [[Main Title|MainTitle]], but required to make it distinguishable from different releases or tracks with the same [[Main Title|MainTitle]] (e.g. [[Track Version|TrackVersion]]), must be entered in parentheses after the [[Main Title|MainTitle]].

This [[Extra Title Information Style|ExtraTitleInformation]] must be put in '''lower case''', '''except for''' those cases where it represents a '''proper name''' (f.e. the titles of a (re)mix, the names of places or persons, etc.).

Note, that this does not apply to sub-titles as explained in [[Subtitle Style|SubTitleStyle]], which are handled as parts of the [[Main Title|MainTitle]].

==Details==

The specific cases of [[Extra Title Information Style|ExtraTitleInformation]] are dealt with in a page of their own. Note, however, that unifiying the following guidelines is still under way:
* [[Remix Style|RemixStyle]]
* [[Versus Style|VersusStyle]]
* [[Soundtrack Title Style|SoundtrackTitleStyle]] (or better [[Soundtrack Style|SoundtrackStyle]])
* [[Instrumental Style|InstrumentalStyle]]

==Examples==

Situations Like These (album version)

Blue (extended mix)

Talking All That Jazz (Torti's Old School Mix of Edits dub)

Bear Witness (Automator's 2 Turntables and a Razor Blade re-edit)

Disciple (demo)

==Discussion==

For example I think "(excerpt)" and "(highlights)" should be in that [[Extra Information Style|ExtraInformationStyle]]: in brackets and lowercase and note it's not a track only matter. --[[User:ClutchEr2|ClutchEr2]]

The following additions to this guideline were [http://lists.musicbrainz.org/pipermail/musicbrainz-users/2004-November/018858.html discussed on the mailing list] on 2004-11-18:
* Extra title information should always be in English, except for volume identifiers which are considered part of the title and should be consistent with the language used in the title.
* Expand all abbreviations within extra title information unless they are part of a title, ie: RMX or MX can sometimes be considered part of a remix title and so should not be blanketly expanded. Featuring is the only accepted abbreviation (as "feat."), all similar abbreviations should be expanded.

----

It is currently not possible to store all information about releases that people might be interested in. Rather than clutter release/track titles with too much information, the following details should be left out:
* Country of release or designation as an import
* Record label
* Designation as a "bonus track"
* Any other information not discussed in the [[Official Style Guideline|OfficialStyleGuideline]]<code><nowiki></nowiki></code>s.

You can, however, add this information to the [[Release Annotation|ReleaseAnnotation]].

''"but required to make it distinguishable from different releases or tracks with the same [[Main Title|MainTitle]]"'' - I think this should be removed, as it's not always the case - e.g. if a track is only ever recorded as a live version, does that mean "(live)" is not required? I'm not sure how to reword it, but basically I think that it should be that any info deemed appropriate on the sleeve is valid [[Extra Title Information Style|ExtraTitleInformation]], '''except''' that which is irrelevant (eg 'bonus track' - because the track itself is no different). --[[User:Gecks|Gecks]]
