Style for Extra Title Information

Additional information on a Release or Track that is not part of its Main Title, but required to make it distinguishable from different releases or tracks with the same Main Title (e.g. Track Version), must be entered in parentheses after the Main Title.

This Extra Title Information must be put in lower case, except for those cases where it represents a proper name (f.e. the titles of a (re)mix, the names of places or persons, etc.).

Note, that this does not apply to sub-titles as explained in Subtitle Style, which are handled as parts of the Main Title.

Ordering of Extra Title Information which includes Featuring Artist Style, Part Number, Track Version can be found under Track Title.

Details

The specific cases of Extra Title Information Style are dealt with in a page of their own. Note, however, that unifiying the following guidelines is still under way:

Examples

  • "Situations Like These (album version)"
  • "Blue (extended mix)"
  • "Talking All That Jazz (Torti's Old School Mix of Edits dub)"
  • "Bear Witness (Automator's 2 Turntables and a Razor Blade re-edit)"
  • "Disciple (demo)"

Other Relevant Guidelines

The rules above may lead to the same track (identical, not a version) having different names on different releases. For example, a song may be released with the name "Song Name" on an album. Then (or before) a single may be released, containing a single-specific version of the song, titled just "Song Name" on the tracklist, together with the version from the album, titled "Song Name (album version)". In these cases, you are strongly encouraged to use the Same Track Relationship Type to link the identical tracks.

It is also a very good idea to use the appropriate relationships from the Alternative Version Relationship Class to link the other versions; sometimes one from Remix Relationship Class is appropriate instead. (In this case, the 'single version' would be linked using Other Version Relationship Type or Remix Relationship Type to the one on the album. The direction is governed by which one is earliest.)
