Status: This Page is Glorious History!

The content of this page either is bit-rotted, or has lost its reason to exist due to some new features having been implemented in MusicBrainz, or maybe just described something that never made it in (or made it in a different way), or possibly is meant to store information and memories about our Glorious Past. We still keep this page to honor the brave editors who, during the prehistoric times (prehistoric for you, newcomer!), struggled hard to build a better present and dreamed of an even better future. We also keep it for archival purposes because possibly it still contains crazy thoughts and ideas that may be reused someday. If you're not into looking at either the past or the future, you should just disregard entirely this page content and look for an up to date documentation page elsewhere.

Style for Part Numbers

Alert.png Attention! This guideline is specific to Part numbering. General rules for appending numbering to a title are found in Series Number Style.

When a track is one of a series of identically named tracks with a defined order, separate the Part Number from the Track Title by a comma and a space.

"TrackTitle, Part 1"

"TrackTitle, Part 1: PartName"

This guideline is a specification of the more general Series Number Style. See that page for principles (especially in which cases Artist Intent overrides this guideline).

Alternative names for parts may be used, such as Section, or their non-English equivalents.

  • Note that if the title of a track is just "Part 1" or similar then this guideline should not apply, because then "Part 1" is considered being the Main Title of the track and not the Part Number.
  • Also note that the Abbreviation Style says that you should not use abbreviations in titles. So "Pt." should always be expanded to "Part" (assuming the Release Language is English).
  • Also note that the Part Name must be formatted according to Subtitle Style.

Example

"Flares, Part 3"

"09-15-00, Part One"

"Creepin', Parts 1 & 2" -- Two numbers are noted using an ampersand "&", the part indication in its plural form.

"Train to Lamy Suite, Parts 1-3" -- More than 2 numbers, which are in sequence are separated by a hyphen "-", the part indication in its plural form.

"This Is a Trackname, Parts 1, 4 & 5" -- More than 2 numbers, which are *not* in sequence are separated by a comma "," and the last one is added with an ampersand "&", the part indication in its plural form.
