''Perhaps can be included within the Broadcast Wiki page? test''
[[Release Group/Type#Broadcast|Broadcast]]: An episodic release that was originally broadcast via radio, television, or the Internet, including podcasts.

This includes reissues or collections of recordings originally created for broadcast, for instance a complete series released on CD.
== Broadcast Guidelines==
For individual shows (episodes).
===Release group type===
The [[Release Group/Type |release group type]] should be set to "Broadcast".
=== Release group secondary type===
If the show was recorded in front of a live studio audience, add "Live". If the show is primarily an [[Release Group/Type#Audio drama|audio drama]], add "Audio Drama"

Do not add "Spoken Word" or "Audiobook", except for special cases.
A podcast is a digitally distributed broadcast (download or stream), that can cover almost any content or topic, eg a music playlist, interview etc. <br />
===Release name===
Although often indistinct from [[Style/Specific_types_of_releases/Broadcast_programs|Broadcast programs]], they are usually referred to as 'podcasts' by the creators or publishers. <br />
Follow this format: YYYY-MM-DD: Program Name [, Series 1234, ][#1234][, "Program Title"][: Location]
Because podcasts are usually released and browsed as a series, as opposed to a traditional broadcast entry (often an independent event), these separate guidelines serve to group and sort podcasts more efficiently.

Notes:
=== Guidelines ===
*Only include series and/or show numbers if each individual show has these.
*''Series'' should be replaced with whatever term the program uses, for instance 'Season'.
* Only include ''Location'' if it is a live recording, or if the location of the recording changes often and is mentioned in the show or on the program's website. Most studio recordings wont have a location added.
*''Location'' follows this syntax: <nowiki>[Venue, ]City, [State, ]Country</nowiki>
Examples:
*[[release:41accaf4-0da2-4de9-bbff-dc178459ffa1|2014-09-04: Ask Me Another #325, <bdi>“What’s the Magic Word?”: The Bell House, Brooklyn, NY, USA</bdi>]]
*[[release:1361e945-f109-435b-8fee-942d4daba127|2012-06-30: Wait Wait… Don’t Tell Me!: State Theatre, Cleveland, OH, USA]]
*[[release:fc5cd809-c8e8-4cca-95f9-1e0d8068ae69|1988-01-24: Fear on Four, Series 1, #4, “Music Lovers”]]
*[[release:63035eb1-a793-41f3-8405-71e5438285b4|2012-06-16: Car Talk #1224, “You Sap”]]
*[[release:c8993a79-46df-4782-b3ae-bb3018f78461|2012-07-07: The Writer’s Almanac]]
===Artist credit===
If the program is primarily written by and performed by the hosts, list them (or their pseudonym) as the artist. Examples:
*[[release:63035eb1-a793-41f3-8405-71e5438285b4|Car Talk]]: Click and Clack, the Tappet Brothers
If the program is primarily a performance of a written work, list the author and the narrators/performers. Examples:
*[https://musicbrainz.org/series/57ef6c0a-e205-4266-bebf-ec9b4bc6003e?tport=8000 Escape Pod]: [author] read by [narrator]
*[[release:c9b2fe3f-5a49-4bff-ace9-ece2a2102158|Fear on Four]]: [author] starring [performer] & [performer]
Otherwise, artist credit should be given to the groups or people given at the beginning of the program. Examples:
*[[release:1361e945-f109-435b-8fee-942d4daba127|Wait Wait... Don't Tell Me!]]: NPR & WBEZ Chicago (WBEZ) &mdash; "From NPR and WBEZ Chicago, this is "Wait Wait... Don't Tell Me!" ..."
*[[release:2866ec6b-0b02-4096-b3a5-7fcc7c3f4e5b|All Things Considered]]: NPR News (NPR) &mdash; "From NPR News, this is All Things Considered ..."
If the only people listed at the beginning of the program are the hosts who are not primary writers, or if there are no people or groups listed at the beginning of the program, use your best judgement for the artist credit. Examples:
*[[release:2354b8fa-21b3-495e-8511-abe23669cd81|Fresh Air]]: NPR & WHYY
*[[release:c8993a79-46df-4782-b3ae-bb3018f78461|The Writer's Almanac]]: American Public Media with Garrison Keillor (while Garrison Keillor is the host, he is not the primary writer)
===Format===
This will usually be digital media (podcasts, radio station website streams and downloads).

If you don't know how or if it was distributed, only that it was aired, leave the format blank (as well as the release date).
====Release Group====
===Track listings===
For programs distributed as a single file or track, use only one track, and title it the same as the release (see [https://musicbrainz.org/release/41accaf4-0da2-4de9-bbff-dc178459ffa1])

For programs separated into segments when distributed (for example, separate downloads for each segment, or a player which loads a new file for each segment), list each segment as a separate track. The track title should be the title of the segment from the distributor, if useful (see [https://musicbrainz.org/release/1361e945-f109-435b-8fee-942d4daba127]). If no titles are given, add [: Part #] to the end each track title.
The [[Release Group/Type | release group type]] should be set to "Broadcast".
===Label===
Use the group responsible for holding rights for and distributing the program you are adding. For example, recordings from "Wait Wait... Don't Tell Me!" are distributed through NPR's website, so the label should be NPR. The same show can be distributed or re-distributed with different groups on different channels, in which case, add separate releases for these. Programs may change distributor over time.

Do not add a catalog number for digital media releases unless you are certain it's a catalog number and not an internal ID number.
The release group Artist credit should be the name of the group or individual/s that present the podcast. If there is no discernible presenter/s across all the episodes, you can use the podcast name or publisher as the Artist, and credit individual artists at the release and track level if necessary ([http://musicbrainz.org/release-group/cd95913d-a4c1-42d7-9503-1de3c88dc236 example]).

Follow this format for the release group Title: [Series Title][: Series #] <br />

Examples:
Examples:
*Wait Wait... Don't Tell Me!: NPR
*Car Talk: [no label] (see [https://www.cartalk.com/radio/show/1224-you-sap]) and/or Dewey, Cheetham, and Howe (see [http://www.audible.com/pd?asin=B0064P4O52] and [http://itunes.apple.com/us/album/1223-emboldened-electrons/id535134247])
===Release date===
Use the date the program was first 'released' (not aired/broadcast, which may be earlier).

If you are unsure of the date, don't enter it &mdash; the day the program aired is already in the release title.

===Release group types===
Additional to the Broadcast release guidelines: If all shows are from the same run of a program, do not add "Compilation", unless it is a curated selection (for instance, 'best of...').
===Release name===
The release title should be the title as given by the source. The [[Style/Titles|usual guidelines]] for release titles apply.
===Artist credit===
Additional to the Broadcast release guidelines: If each track/show varies in its release credit, only credit artists that the overall program is credited to, or that are consistently credited on each track. If there are none, use 'Various Artists'.

Example:
==== Release Title ====
*[[release:c9b2fe3f-5a49-4bff-ace9-ece2a2102158|Fear on Four]]: Edward de Souza (the host, the only artist consistent across shows)
If there is no release identifier, such as an episode number, follow this format for the release Title (where YYYY-MM-DD represents the date of digital distribution, not the original broadcast): [Release Group Title][: YYYY-MM-DD] <br />
===Track listings===
If there is a release identifier, follow this format instead: [Release Group Title][: Episode #]
Track titles should be the title of the segments given by the distributor.

If no track titles are given, follow the guidelines for Broadcast [[Style/Specific types of releases/Broadcast programs#Release name|Release name]] for each track: YYYY-MM-DD: Program Name [, Series 1234, ][#1234][, "Program Title"][: Location]
Examples:
===Recordings===
Tracks (shows) should share a recording with the individual show releases, if available and the same.

If so, recording titles follow the individual show release (rather than the title given by the distributor when grouped). e.g. YYYY-MM-DD: Program Name [, Series 1234, ][#1234][, "Program Title"][: Location]
* [http://musicbrainz.org/release/6ddb4ba8-2bd5-4c17-b86b-50934e12b467 SModcast: Episode 236]
===Release date===
Use the date the grouping (e.g. the CD or download) was released.

If a grouping has been released over time (for instance, the distributor adds episodes to a page as they are released), use the date of the final addition.
* [http://musicbrainz.org/release/e6aa6890-2c48-454b-b28c-e8909579f6b4 Dr Karl's Great Moments in Science: 2013-01-22]

* [http://musicbrainz.org/release/32fd3864-711d-428f-b8f0-4b296d55b318 The Infinite Monkey Cage: Series 1, Episode 1]
==Series==
Broadcast releases of the same program can be collected in a [[Style/Series|series]].

Use the 'Release Group' series type, unless the series is additionally collecting an attribute that may be release-specific (for instance, shows/releases put out by a specific distributer).
==== Track Title ====
The track title is the name of the episode.

The same series can include both individual show releases and grouped releases.
If the episode is split up into parts, follow this format: Episode Name[: Part #] <br />

If the episode is split up into parts with their own separate titles, simply name each track/ part with the corresponding title.

Broadcast wiki page draft

Scope

Broadcast: An episodic release that was originally broadcast via radio, television, or the Internet, including podcasts.

This includes reissues or collections of recordings originally created for broadcast, for instance a complete series released on CD.

Broadcast Guidelines

For individual shows (episodes).

Release group type

The release group type should be set to "Broadcast".

Release group secondary type

If the show was recorded in front of a live studio audience, add "Live". If the show is primarily an audio drama, add "Audio Drama"

Do not add "Spoken Word" or "Audiobook", except for special cases.

Release name

Follow this format: YYYY-MM-DD: Program Name [, Series 1234, ][#1234][, "Program Title"][: Location]

Notes:

  • Only include series and/or show numbers if each individual show has these.
  • Series should be replaced with whatever term the program uses, for instance 'Season'.
  • Only include Location if it is a live recording, or if the location of the recording changes often and is mentioned in the show or on the program's website. Most studio recordings wont have a location added.
  • Location follows this syntax: [Venue, ]City, [State, ]Country

Examples:

Artist credit

If the program is primarily written by and performed by the hosts, list them (or their pseudonym) as the artist. Examples:

  • Car Talk: Click and Clack, the Tappet Brothers

If the program is primarily a performance of a written work, list the author and the narrators/performers. Examples:

Otherwise, artist credit should be given to the groups or people given at the beginning of the program. Examples:

If the only people listed at the beginning of the program are the hosts who are not primary writers, or if there are no people or groups listed at the beginning of the program, use your best judgement for the artist credit. Examples:

  • Fresh Air: NPR & WHYY
  • The Writer's Almanac: American Public Media with Garrison Keillor (while Garrison Keillor is the host, he is not the primary writer)

Format

This will usually be digital media (podcasts, radio station website streams and downloads).

If you don't know how or if it was distributed, only that it was aired, leave the format blank (as well as the release date).

Track listings

For programs distributed as a single file or track, use only one track, and title it the same as the release (see [1])

For programs separated into segments when distributed (for example, separate downloads for each segment, or a player which loads a new file for each segment), list each segment as a separate track. The track title should be the title of the segment from the distributor, if useful (see [2]). If no titles are given, add [: Part #] to the end each track title.

Label

Use the group responsible for holding rights for and distributing the program you are adding. For example, recordings from "Wait Wait... Don't Tell Me!" are distributed through NPR's website, so the label should be NPR. The same show can be distributed or re-distributed with different groups on different channels, in which case, add separate releases for these. Programs may change distributor over time.

Do not add a catalog number for digital media releases unless you are certain it's a catalog number and not an internal ID number.

Examples:

  • Wait Wait... Don't Tell Me!: NPR
  • Car Talk: [no label] (see [3]) and/or Dewey, Cheetham, and Howe (see [4] and [5])

Release date

Use the date the program was first 'released' (not aired/broadcast, which may be earlier).

If you are unsure of the date, don't enter it — the day the program aired is already in the release title.

Grouped Broadcast Guidelines

For shows (episodes) grouped into series or programs. For instance, a collection released on CD, or as a download.

Unless specified below, follow the Broadcast release guidelines on this page for these releases.

Examples:

Release group types

Additional to the Broadcast release guidelines: If all shows are from the same run of a program, do not add "Compilation", unless it is a curated selection (for instance, 'best of...').

Release name

The release title should be the title as given by the source. The usual guidelines for release titles apply.

Artist credit

Additional to the Broadcast release guidelines: If each track/show varies in its release credit, only credit artists that the overall program is credited to, or that are consistently credited on each track. If there are none, use 'Various Artists'.

Example:

  • Fear on Four: Edward de Souza (the host, the only artist consistent across shows)

Track listings

Track titles should be the title of the segments given by the distributor.

If no track titles are given, follow the guidelines for Broadcast Release name for each track: YYYY-MM-DD: Program Name [, Series 1234, ][#1234][, "Program Title"][: Location]

Recordings

Tracks (shows) should share a recording with the individual show releases, if available and the same.

If so, recording titles follow the individual show release (rather than the title given by the distributor when grouped). e.g. YYYY-MM-DD: Program Name [, Series 1234, ][#1234][, "Program Title"][: Location]

Release date

Use the date the grouping (e.g. the CD or download) was released.

If a grouping has been released over time (for instance, the distributor adds episodes to a page as they are released), use the date of the final addition.

If you are unsure of the date, don't enter it.

Series

Broadcast releases of the same program can be collected in a series.

Use the 'Release Group' series type, unless the series is additionally collecting an attribute that may be release-specific (for instance, shows/releases put out by a specific distributer).

The same series can include both individual show releases and grouped releases.
