Dave is the primary maintainer of [http://musicbrainz.org/mrtg/ the MusicBrainz servers], developing most of the server software for them, and making sure that they continue to run smoothly.

Dave currently works for the BBC, leading a team that creates systems that drive [http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/ iPlayer]. Previously Dave worked for [http://powernet.co.uk/ Power Internet] (bespoke server development, sysadmin, and generally maintaining Powernet's servers); Transatlantic Software; [http://www.csc.com/ Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC)]; and [http://www.watford.co.uk/ Watford Electronics].

Dave found MusicBrainz in July 2002 (and then promptly lost it again until October). Although somewhat rusty through lack of practice, he can still play the violin. Just about.

Dave then went to work for Transatlantic Software, where he gained experience in SQL Server and UNIX before working on database-driven web sites written in Perl.
