Collaboration

Indicates a collaboration between two artist or among several artists. Use this for projects, single albums, or even tracks where some artists worked together, but did not form a lasting group. For groups you should use the membership type.

Link phrases

Artist collaborated {minorly} {additionally} on: Artist
{minor} {additional} collaborator on: Artist
{minor} {additional} collaborators: Artist

Attributes

  • start dateThis is a required attribute.:This indicates the date that collaborative effort began.
  • end dateThis is a required attribute.:This indicates the date that collaborative effort began.
  • additional:This indicates that this artist had only a secondary role in the collaboration.
  • minor:This indicates that this artist had only a minor role in the collaboration.

Guidelines

  • The target artist is the collaboration artist, not another artist also involved in the collaboration.
  • This relationship type is only intended for short-term projects consisting of independent artists, who move on after the collaboration is finished. If the target artist was not this type of project, then Member Of Band Relationship Type should be used.

Member of band

Indicates membership of a person artist in a group artist.

Link phrases

Artist is/was an {an additional|a} {founding} member of: Artist
{additional} {founding} member of: Artist
{additional} {founding} members: Artist

Attributes

  • start dateThis is a required attribute.:This is the date that the person artist joined the group artist.
  • end dateThis is a required attribute.:This is the date that the person artist left the group artist. If the person artist is still a member of the group artist, leave blank. If the group artist has itself has ended, and the person artist was a member at that time, use the date that the group artist ended.
  • additional:This attribute describes if a particular performance role was considered normal or additional.
  • founder:This attribute indicates that the person artist was a founding member of the group artist.

Guidelines

  • Some person artists leave a group artist, then rejoin again later. This should be represented through the use of more than one relationship between the person and group artists, with the appropriate start and end dates set.
  • If a person artist is usually known by a particular performance name, use that performance name to link them to the group artist instead of their legal name. If the artist uses multiple performance names, the performance name that should be used is the one that they usually performed under while in the group artist. Artists are usually credited by their performance names, rather than their legal names. In fact, the real names of some very well known members of group artists are quite obscure. If an artist's legal name were used to link them to the group artist, instead of their performance name, this would create confusion, and people would likely try to link the performance name anyway.

Founding Member Dates Question

Supporting musician

Links supporting artists to the artists for whom they played, on an album or in a live band. This relationship type is the functional equivalent of the Member Of Band Relationship Type for person artist targets, though the use of this relationship type for group artist targets is not forbidden, if the relationship would be correct.
