Sort Names are designed to make it easier to find a particular Artist, Label, or Work when they are presented in a list, by providing consistant rules for how the names are sorted. The sort name should work similarly to looking up an item in a phonebook or on a library or store shelf.

Artist and Label Sort Names

Because the Artist and Label sort name fields do not allow you to specify the language, you must transliterate the name into Latin script before applying any of the following transformation rules. This does not apply to sort names on Aliases; they should be in the original script or the script specified by any language-specific rules that apply.
