My team has been asking me to put some of my thoughts on how I think the projects inside of MetaBrainz should be managed. There are currently a lot of mis-conceptions around my philosophies, so I am starting a series of posts here that explain my thoughts on these topics. I'm nearly certain that this is not the right forum for these posts, but I'm not certain where to put them just yet. For now, I'll create sub-pages that will be linked from here.
As part of running this project I've gotten to be quite busy travelling around to conferences, board meetings and other silly business meetings. Given that, here is my travel schedule in case you're curious and wonder why I may not be responding to mail quite so quickly:
* OSCON, Portland, Oregon -- July 24-28, 2006
* Burning Man, Black Rock City -- August 25 - September 4th, 2006
* Converge, Tokyo, Japan -- September 27-28, 2006 (tentative)
* Future of Music Policy Summit, Montreal, Canada -- October 5-7, 2006

The following things are on my radar as issues that need to be addressed, features that I want to hack on, or chocolate that needs to be earned:
* [[Intuitive Picard Interface|IntuitivePicardInterface]] -- fix all of the issues that prevent [[MusicBrainz Tagger|MusicBrainzTagger]] users from switching over to Picard.
* Replace the contentious [[Auto Moderator|AutoModerator]] system with a comprehensive [[Editor Rating|EditorRating]] system. Wether or not I will implement the rating system as the wiki page by the same name suggests it, remains to be seen.
* [[Folksonomy Tag|FolksonomyTag]]<code><nowiki></nowiki></code>ging -- allow moderators to apply arbitrary tags to artists, albums and tracks. Much like Flickr uses tags.
* MBID supercession -- give MBIDs a trail so that if an album gets merged into another album, the previous album id isn't simply forgotten.
* [[Nadelnder Bambus|NadelnderBambus]] -- the next generation of [[MusicBrainz]]. Capture more data and capture exisiting data better.

RobertKaye is Ruaok, also known as the Mayhem & Chaos Coordinator.

I'm the person responsible for starting this project when Gracenote pissed me off when they took the freely available CDDB project and closed it up and started charging people for accessing the data. It was people like me who built this data in the first place and I felt violated. Thus the motivation for MusicBrainz was born.

My thoughts on dev meetings -- How I think Dev meetings should be run.
My MetaBrainz management philosophy -- How I empower my team to do their job.
Planning in a resource constrained non-profit -- How to deal with planning when resources are tight.
