What I do at MusicBrainz

  • I edit. Quite a lot.
    • slowly go through my own CD collection adding missing core data (usually release events, basic URL links etc). This tends to get sidelined by my other editing activities below though, bizarrely.
    • fix other people's edits to the StyleGuidelines and add missing data (typically release events and URL ARs)
    • create and split (disambiguate) artists with the same names based on Discogs, Wikipedia, googling and other sources. Time consuming but rewarding. mudcrow and drsaunde do a lot of this too; they're awesome.
    • the odd back catalogue population stuff, usually drum & bass labels (e.g. Renegade Hardware, Hospital Records), and also New Zealand hip hop artists/labels (which have limited data availability unfortunately)
    • Nine Inch Nails tidying, particularly related to LiveBootlegStyle and other boots.
    • AdvancedRelationship mass-tagging for the odd release I really love. I don't do enough of this.
  • I vote, a reasonable amount. We don't have nearly enough voters helping others learn the StyleGuidelines, fixing edits and keeping an eye on destructive edits like merges and removals.
  • I actively help users on the forums.
  • I read the mailing lists a lot; pipe up on style issues occasionally.
  • I try and do bug triaging on MB's Trac BugTracker, for PicardTagger in particular.
  • As of August 2008, I'm a TransclusionEditor and am now trying to play an active role in leading, improving and tidying the WikiDocs documentation, particularly around use of the website and Picard.
