This page is for collecting information about languages currently spoken by Moderators. This could help with various matters, for example when you are editing an entry in a language you don't know well and wish to have advice from someone who knows the language better.
* See [[:Category:User Language]] for a list of all languages spoken by users where the information is still stored in this wiki.

===How to Add Yourself===

Please add your native language(s) and any others that you feel proficient in or knowledgeable about.

'''This is how it works:''' Add the languages you know ''to your [[User Page|UserPage]]'' like this <code><nowiki>["ModeratorLanguage/Klingon/Native"]</nowiki></code>. This way people will be able to find you using the [[Back Link|BackLink]]<code><nowiki></nowiki></code>s to the language-pages above. These language-pages all have exactly three [[Sub Page|SubPage]]<code><nowiki></nowiki></code>s: /Native, /Fluent, and /Some.

If you speak a language that is not listed here, please add ''and create'' the appropirate language-page using the [[Moderator Language Template|ModeratorLanguageTemplate]].

If you are willing to provide translation help to others, please add your information to [[Online Translator|OnlineTranslator]] under "Other Resources" as shown, thanks

''Is it on purpose or by mistake that the actual links from moderators' pages don't lead anywhere? I'm not too familiar with all this wiki magic...'' //[[User:bnw|bnw]]
<ul><li style="list-style-type:none">Something in between. If you want the links to lead to pages, then you'd have to create them. But there is no real value in these [[Sub Pages|SubPages]]. I think it is cleanest to create them. See discussion on [[Moderator Language/French/Native|ModeratorLanguage/French/Native]]. --[[User:DonRedman|DonRedman]]

<ul><li style="list-style-type:none">Mo, why do you want to keep this? Everybody (including you and [[User:DeKarl|DeKarl]]) can now be found with the new scheme, so what do you want to keep a table with two entries for? The discussion has been summarized in the instrucitions above, so I do not see any point in keeping it either. I could understand if you wanted to have a table that gives an overview at one glance, but then please write it youself, include everyone and keep it up to date. I just do not see any point in keeping the old section ''untouched''. --[[User:DonRedman|DonRedman]]
<ul><li style="list-style-type:none">I tested a new automatic generated table in the [[Sand Box|SandBox]] but of course this is very slow and it will be even slower when it includes every language. Btw: I'm also against the static table. --[[User:Shepard|Shepard]]
</ul>[[User:DonRedman|DonRedman]], why do we keep this table, just because two moderators did not update their wiki pages and removed themself from the table on their own? --[[User:DeKarl|DeKarl]]
<ul><li style="list-style-type:none">Well, mo reverted the delete twice. This is why I have started this discussion and asked him, why he wants to keep the table. Besides, I checked: His user page ''does'' have links to ModeratorLanguage. --[[User:DonRedman|DonRedman]]

This is an old list of [[Moderator Languages|ModeratorLanguages]]. See the discussion below for the reasons why we changed to the system above. If you are listed below, please enter yourself into the new system and then delete the table row with your name. Thanks.

===Discussion that lead to the new linking scheme===

Um, this is a wiki and sorted lists do not make any sense here, really. Better use wiki featues instead: You could make a [[Sub Page|SubPage]] for each language (maybe like this [[Moderator Language/Native Klingon|/NativeKlingon]] and [[Moderator Language/Secondary Klingon|/SecondaryKlingon]] or leave the Native/Secondary part out). Then each Editor can add their language to their category person page here on the wiki. (e.g. [[Moderator Language/Native Klingon|ModeratorLanguage/NativeKlingon]]). Then you can just get a list of all people natively speaking Klingon via [[Back Link|BackLink]]<code><nowiki></nowiki></code>s. [[Moin Moin|MoinMoin]] offers the possibility to list these pages on this page with macros like <code><nowiki>[[FullSearch(ModeratorLanguage/NativeKlingon)]]</nowiki></code>. See [[MoinMoin:HelpOnMacros|HelpOnMacros]] and [[MoinMoin:HelpOnEditing/SubPages|HelpOnEditing/SubPages]] for details. --[[User:DonRedman|DonRedman]]

I like this idea more, although I think I would prefer 'native', 'fluent' and 'some' to 'native' and 'secondary'. Secondary doesn't really give us any idea of just how much of the language someone speaks, Rob's English is obviously much better than, say, [[Lu Kz|LuKz]]' because he actually lives in an English speaking country. Is there a way of doing it so that you could get a list of all English speakers, and then if you wanted, a list of all native English speakers? --[[User:Nikki|Nikki]]

Well, something like this: One [[Sub Page|SubPage]] for each language like [[Moderator Language/Klingon|ModeratorLanguage/Klingon]] and a sub-[[Sub Page|SubPage]] for the nativeness (sp?) like [[Moderator Language/Klingon/Native|ModeratorLanguage/Klingon/Native]], [[Moderator Language/Klingon/Fluent|ModeratorLanguage/Klingon/Fluent]], and [[Moderator Language/Klingon/Some|ModeratorLanguage/Klingon/Some]]. Unfortunately these are not [[Wiki Word|WikiWord]]<code><nowiki></nowiki></code>s so you have to write <code><nowiki>["ModeratorLanguage/Klingon/Native"]</nowiki></code> on your user page. If I got Moin right, then you could have [[Back Link|BackLink]]<code><nowiki></nowiki></code>s to ModeratorLanguage/Klingon and all its [[Sub Page|SubPage]]<code><nowiki></nowiki></code>s. That is what you want, isn't it? --[[User:DonRedman|DonRedman]]

This page is an old page for collecting information about languages currently spoken by users, from before it was possible to enter this information in your user profile. Now that is it possible, the function of this information in the wiki has been almost entirely replaced.

  • See MBS-4823 for the ticket asking to search editors by language.
  • See Category:User Language for a list of all languages spoken by users where the information is still stored in this wiki.
