"This means that track ordering may be strange, e.g. A1, A2, A3, D1, D2, D3, B1, B2, B3, C1, C2, C3. (second side of first disc is the end of the release)." is really confusing. I've seen those, but they're really rare. Far more common to have second side of first disc be "B", not "D".

Just so it's not missed, here's the end comments from IRC:

<hawke_> I don’t totally like the treatment of 8-tracks, that will probably need more thinking
<brianfreud> do you recall the guideline - under misc guideline, maybe? - for unordered audio files (on CD-ROM or otherwise)? the one that says to just put them alphabetically?
Do we now just not number those at all?
   <hawke_> Yes
<brianfreud> (does the RE even allow unnumbered tracks?)
   <hawke_> yes
   <brianfreud> ah

<brianfreud> ok, next case: pre-gap. "-1", "-2", or just unnumbered?
   ...
<brianfreud> perhaps have a "when it's permitted" to cover that, in the guideline? (ala how we had the "post-NGS" clauses in some guidelines?)
