It's usually a good idea to merge a misspelled artist into the correctly spelled version. This is preferable to doing a [[Move Release Edit]] or [[Change Track Artist Edit]], because [[Merge Artists Edit]] automatically adds the "lost" artist name as an [[Artist Alias]] to the target artist.

So next time someone attempts to add a track to the misspelled artist, the [[Artist Alias]] will automatically redirect them to the correct spelling, thus preventing the user of re-creating the incorrect spelling again.

This is in some ways analogous to the [[Merge Rather Than Delete]] guideline for [[Duplicate Release]]s.

Note that in some (more rare) cases on the other hand, doing so is not desirable, for the very same reason (an alias for the "lost" artist will be attached to the target artist). This happens specifically when merging a bogus collaboration ("A & B") into an artist ("A").
