Style for tracks which contain only part of a movement
- Status: This is a ProposedStyleGuideline, which has not been sanctioned yet. This StyleGuideline applies to classical music only.
The ClassicalStyleGuide states that the track titles for works with movements should include the overall work name, then the movement number (in Roman numerals) then information about the movement (title, tempi, whatever). Sometimes, however, a disc has long movements split across several tracks. These should be entered as follows:
- Symphony No. 9 in D minor "Choral", Op. 125: IVa. Presto - Allegro ma non troppo - Tempo I - Vivace - Tempo I - Adagio cantabile - Tempo I - Allegro assai - Tempo I - Allegro assai -
- Symphony No. 9 in D minor "Choral", Op. 125: IVb. Presto - Recitativo - Allegro assai -
- Symphony No. 9 in D minor "Choral", Op. 125: IVc. Allegro assai vivace. Alla marcia -
- Symphony No. 9 in D minor "Choral", Op. 125: IVd. Andante maestoso - Adagio ma non troppo, ma divoto -
- Symphony No. 9 in D minor "Choral", Op. 125: IVe. Andante energico e sempre ben marcato -
- Symphony No. 9 in D minor "Choral", Op. 125: IVf. Allegro ma non tanto -
- Symphony No. 9 in D minor "Choral", Op. 125: IVg. Poco allegro, stringendo il tempo, sempre più allegro -
- Symphony No. 9 in D minor "Choral", Op. 125: IVh. Presto -
- Symphony No. 9 in D minor "Choral", Op. 125: IVi. Maestoso - Prestissimo
That is:
- Add a lowercase letter after the movement number to distinguish the subsections of the movement.
- On all tracks except the last track in the movement, add a trailing " -" to the title, as an additional visual clue that there is more to follow in this movement.
