Open questions

  • What to do if a release is in the database but with a different title?
  • This did apply to two of my Djang Reinhardt discs and to some of my cheap samplers. First verify that the other title is not bogus and really correspond to an existing alternative edition. If it does, you'll have to decide on a case by case basis if it's worth creating another identical release (but the title). Some discussion about this is found at the bottom of the Jazz page. -- dmppanda 17:20, 21 October 2006 (UTC)
  • How can edits be protected?
  • Sometimes the spelling is special, some annotations are non-trivial. Is there a way to subscribe to releases instead of artists?
    • At that time, there's only two ways to "protect" stuff: (a) write a big fat warning in the release annotation and/or (b) subscribe to the artists, and vote/watch the changes. Now, there's some discussion to address this in DataQuality. -- RobertKaye 2007-02-12
  • Is there a better way to handle collaborations?
  • Currently the database contains a lot of entries of the form Artist A & Artist B. There must be a better world somewhere.
    • Right now, no there isn't :D. I guess you might want to read NextGenerationSchema (sort of a MusicBrainz Next Gen), and if this point is not already covered there, bring up the issue. -- dmppanda 22:11, 23 October 2006 (UTC)
  • Oh my, Big Joe ...
  • Are these artists really different? * Big Bill Broonzy / Big Boy Broonzy / Big Bill Brooney / Big Bill Broozy
    • They need to be investigated: check the songs, search the artists on the web. If they are the same songs in both artists, chances are good it's the same artist (you don't have to check "Jelly Roll Morton", still, just merge it :)). Now if you don't have time to investigate yourself, you might want to put this list somewhere else in your page, in a section like "TODO" or "Editing Suggestions", and someone will/might check them. -- dmppanda 20:54, 27 October 2006 (UTC)

Disclaimer

I think this is a good place to collect open questions and resolved issues. Drop me a line if I'm wrong. I will delete this page then.

  • Please don't delete it. It's your page after all ;). Now, maybe this is not the most appropriate place to ask questions, as most people won't notice (errr... well, that leaves you with answers from the "not-most" people :p). There are two good places for fast answers: the users mailing list, and IRC. -- dmppanda 20:54, 27 October 2006 (UTC)
